Shake I looked too. Looks like "antediluvian" software. 8-)

In general, nodes are very common not only in rendering software. Substance Designer(3d texturing) is node based. 3d-Coat is not directly node based, but the principle is the same. Advanced photo filters like FilterForge are node based.

Everyone who engages in computer graphics(2D or 3D) must have basic knowledge in this area.

Who thinks that nodes are difficult, can be engaged in clay modeling or wood carving. ;)
