Create & Save custom materials

Postby ntxdave » Tue Jan 16, 2018 8:48 pm

Although Composer has a lot of really neat materials, I need to be able to customize some of them and save in a library for future use. As an example, I use the Shiny Black Plastic for several different objects. However, I would like to have a version where the Alpha is set to 1.

How do I create it and save it as my own material with a custom name?

If I do change a material and then save the file and Composer asks if I want to save the modified materials, does it save that modified material in the materials library or just for that model?

It saves the material to the library.

Try the following, from the library, drag the material you want to start with, and drop it in the library, a copy will be created.

Edit the copy as you see appropriate.

When closing, please save the library.

Next time, it will be part of the material library

Thanks, that worked fine. However (isn't there always a however ;) ), how do I put that new material in my own library instead of the SimLab library?

On a slightly different topic, where can I get some bump maps?

Have you tried FilterForge for making textures? It will often offer to create the diffuse, bump and normal map for the texture. If you buy it make sure ist on special offer. its often 70% off.

OK - I had a Library created but was messing up how to create a new material. Got it now.

I will have a look at FilterForge. I do have Xara Graphics so I should also look at creating some bump maps there as well.

Thanks for the feedback/reply.
