3ds Max Render to Texture (texture baking) question

Postby vislaw » Mon Jul 02, 2018 11:33 pm

Hello:

We use 3ds Max as our primary modeling tool and, for the most part, we are happy with how models exported as fbx files come into SimLab Composer. Our main use of Composer is to create files that may be viewed and navigated in real time. Thus, we really appreciate that SimLab includes texture baking.

Unfortunately, in some instances the texture baking just doesn't perform as well as we would like (artifacts, noise etc.). This led me to wonder whether it would be a better workflow to use 3ds Max's own texture baking (render to texture) to create a textured model before bringing it into Composer.

Is there any reason this would not be a good workflow? Will SimLab read and apply the UV map created by 3ds Max's render to texture system?

Both workflows should work.

Baking in SimLab Composer is easy to create, and if you need help in achieving better results, please let us know.

If you have a model already baked using 3DS Max, then sure you can use it, it should be imported well to SimLab Composer and be ready to be used in 3D PDF, VR, and WebGL.
