Walking up stairs in VR

Postby Ryder » Sat Jul 14, 2018 8:11 am

Hi all,

Is there a way to walk up and down stairs in a VR environment?

Also, what rules are there for creating geometry that is "legal" to teleport to in VR? It may be linked to the size of the geometry.... but I'm not sure. Stair sized objects certainly don't work.

Thanks

To walk up stairs, set it to fly... That should do it..

Flying ain't walking :)

In desktop VR mode, you can simply walk up. In VR mode you can only teleport.

You can point to the step and teleport to it, you need to point to the horizontal side.

Another solution is to add a camera on top of the stairs, as shown in the following tutorial

These are both "teleport" style movements and are not realistic. I understand that walking can be uncomfortable, but it is only uncomfortable for some people... this is why the option to do both is needed. This is common in VR.

Not sure about controllers, but in Computer mode, you can hit your space bar and arrow keys, which will allow you to jump and move forward.. Controllers must have something similar.. Having a Mac I cannot sure that feature yet..
