SimLab Composer animation edition (Introduction)

Postby SimLab » Tue Aug 24, 2010 11:44 pm

This is the first post about the animation capabilities of the new animation edition; this post will provide a general introduction, following posts will focus on specific animation details.

Using the animation edition that user can create 4 types of animation:
1- Camera
2- Geometry
3- Material
4- Light

Creating an animation usually starts by selecting the end frame of the animation, by default the end frame is 100, the user can change the end frame by clicking on the Time Line button in the animation toolbar, then entering the end frame value in the end frame spin box.

The user can create animation in two ways:
1- Using predefined animations (which are simple predefined actions)
2- Creating key frame animations by changing locations of objects or properties of cameras, lights or materials at any key frame other than frame 0

For example to create a round table animation of the Lego car, all what the user need to do is to select the top level car and to click on the Round table object button in the animation toolbar.

This creates a round table animation rotating the object 360 degrees around the global z axis

To view the animation the user should click the Play button in the animation controls toolbar or use the short cut (Space bar). The following animation shows the resulting animation

[ Play Quicktime file ] SimLab.mp4 [ 665.75 KiB | Viewed 1464 times ]

To view key frames, pre defined animations and to change their properties, the user can click the show details buttons in the time line.

When clicking on an animation or a key frame, its properties will appear, the user can change those properties, for example in round table animation the user can change start frame, end frame, the rotation angle and the normal around which the round table will rotate (location and direction).

Hi Simlab team,
This is great stuff ! I really like and appreciate the dedication you guys put into your product also the speed you pump new features out.
Just one question, will it possible, not only to have a rendered output of an animation, but to have the animation output to PDF ?

Cheers and keep up the good work.

Animation in 3D PDF will be included in the release, though it will not be included in the closed Beta starting next week.
