Smoothing mesh

Hello,

I tried to smooth the normals of the big fruits here, but got no effect. Did I have overseen something?

I checked the file, and the problem is in the structure of the big fruits, each of them consists of a number of meshes and not a single one.

To see this, click on one of the big fruits, this will select the 3D object containing the polygon that was clicked and click hide, you will see this clearly

Interesting - if i open the mesh objects in Rhino anything is fine, each fruit is a single, smoothed mesh. Maybe there is a 3ds import bug.

Hi Simlab Team,

I can confirm what Micha has seen with the model. I loaded it into trueSpace 6 and the smoothing is fine.

It does appear to be something odd with the file though which trueSpace is handling that Composer isn't. I exported a single pear as 3ds from trueSpace and the resulting object is correctly smoothed when imported into composer.

Opened in Hypershot 1.7, apart from the seams and slight faceting at the bottom of the pears smoothing looks not bad.

Thanks for the great input, we will look into this.
We will start with the 3DS importer to see why it is breaking the geometry
