SimLab Composer 2.2 (Material Animation)

Postby SimLab » Thu Sep 02, 2010 4:38 pm

Material animation can be used to show different material combinations of a product, to show effects like turning a light on, or to add a visual effect to the animation.

SimLab Composer supports smooth and sudden material transitions. The user can create multiple key frames for a material by changing the current frame to a new frame and to change the properties of the material, or by dropping a new material from the material library.

In the following animation smooth material transition is applied to SimLab, while sudden change is applied at Soft.

Note: Material animation will not be supported in 3D PDF.

Excellent! We sell products that come in several colors, so I see a perfect opportunity to use material animation on our models.

At some point will we be able to keyframe the HDRI intensity? Would be nice to dim the scene at the very end. Also it would be a way to make simple "fade to black" transitions between scenes without using a program like After Effects.

Danny,

Yes they will be included, but you should not expect texture interpolation in version 2.2 ;)

So if you apply 1 texture for each frame everything will work fine.

but if you used the same material from frame 1 to frame 100
and you changed the texture at frame 100, then what you will end up with is
the first texture from the first frame to frame 50 and the second texture to frame 100.

In future versions we can consider mixing the textures dynamically, but we will wait for users feedback when they test material animation

Ed,

Glad that you liked material animation, those are nice suggestions that we will consider in future versions.

Cheers,

Ashraf
