Normal Maps

Postby neilr » Tue May 24, 2011 11:23 pm

Just wanted you to know that I was doing some searching on real maps and how to make them and I found this:

http://ssbump-generator.yolasite.com/

Here is a render comparison using a regular bum (left) map and a normal map (right). It took me just a few minutes to create it and I used the default settings on the normal map so after playing with it and learning some of it's finer points I hope to do better. OH it is freeware btw...

also just so you know I did not change the lighting just the map.

Here is my metals material library.

Most are using the normal maps I made with ssBump.

I am attaching the library and just a note to simlab ....why i s the extension mlb not accepted? I mean when I zip it it does not get any smaller...

Hello Neilr,

Thanks for the great library.
the mlb extension was just enabled, so you should be able to upload mlb files.
mlb files are already compressed so the file size should not change when compressing the file.

Here is a pic of some rock wall textures I re did with normal maps, and I used normal maps on my torch and that really improved it. A word of caution on normal maps though they really add allot of tome to a render....
