Flex Bodies

Post by Tessla » Thu Aug 27, 2020 11:52 pm

Hi Simlab.. Regarding your file support.. I have tried to use the FBX to export morphing, it does not work. I just tried with GLT,GLB, and that too does not work.. Industry uses the .abc as a standard too. That does work with morphing.

Flexible Bodies in SimLab Composer
SimLab Composer can read flexible bodies from file formats that the industry experts use the most, which are:
FBX
USDZ
GLTF, GLB

SimLab Composer 10 supports skeleton based flex bodies, which are more widely used.

We still did not get many request for morphing based flex bodies,
If we get enough request we surly will consider them in the future.

Many users however, for years, have asked for animated springs.. This can be achieved if the .abc file can be added.. We can animate a spring in C4D etc, then save as a .abc. Ether that, use a sequence of animated images, but a sequence of obj's cannot be added into SLC ether... But at the moment after so many years, it's still not possible to animate a spring in Simlab Composer or bring one in. FBX does not support this.. Do you anticipate that your new Flex Bodies can support an animate a spring..?? If it can, could you please provide a demo on how to achieve this..

Users here HAVE asked if certain animations are possible in SLC, but they are not.. But you are right, none of them have asked for the .abc file formate to be added or even a sequence of obj's. We have done a lot of testing trail and errors to find a solution. We feel we have found one, in ether a sequence of obj's or using the .abc file format..

Perhaps your team will find or add a solution where flexible animation can be done within SLC. Since at the moment, it all has to be done outside of SLC.. But but not all flex animations will work.. We have Poser, it exports the .abc file format as well as the FBX. However, all the animations we have done using Poser, are not supported using the FBX format so none of them can be added into a VR..
