GPU rendering.

Post by Marian87 » Tue Nov 08, 2011 2:57 am

Just rendering something and I noticed that my CPU usage was almost 100% while my GPU usage almost 0%.
Is it a possibility that in some future version Simlab could also use the GPU for rendering? I don't know too much about the technical side, is it only possible with CUDA graphic cards? I hope not :P

GPU utilization is done usually by the renderer.

Renders can be CPU based, GPU based or hybrid utilizing both.
Due to the structure of GPUs utilizing them can improve the rendering speed.

All what I can say at this point, is that this is something we are looking at.

It's 2021 :-)

Any update on enabling GPU rendering in SimLab Composer? I have two RTX2080 and it would be a great benefit to have GPU enabled rendering vs CPU.

Lucky you, you have 2*2080 on your machine.

You can take advantage of those cards in your amazing VR experiences.

For us we did good comparisons we know on some configurations GPU can be faster, but when taking the difference, and needed hardware we did not see this as a great investment.

So for regular rendering I am sorry to inform you we decided to stay with CPU based rendering.

Though what we are working on next is enabling real time raytracing in VR, and enabling users to use it for rendering, so you can get rendered movie in seconds, not gaining small 5% of speed.
