When I import a model from SketchUp, -Composer splits the geometry into faces and UV mapping is destroyed. I want to put a normal map to the grips on this steel bar without having to put material on every single face. Help anybody?
Imorting from SketchUp Group split into faces
Re: Imorting from SketchUp Group split into faces
Two things you can try.
Make sure nothing is selected then drop a material in object in SimLab Composer, this should work (all objects using the material should be updated)
Or select the whole part (select + Shift and double click) then drop material on the selected object.
If you faced any issue with this, please attached the file and I will be glad to create a simple video showing this.

Ashraf

Re: Imorting from SketchUp Group split into faces
Still having problem with this. Help how to do it would be appreciated.
Tried your suggestions but cannot get to the material editor, -only works by selecting the separate faces.
Straight model works fine but when steelbar is curved the faces are split during import and having separate material pieces. Please find model and normal map attached.

Re: Imorting from SketchUp Group split into faces
I thought it would be easier, the real issue is that each group of triangles has its own material (with special texture) and its own texture coordinates, so I decided to re-apply the material
Following are the steps:
1- Import the model and drag a material from the library on the tree (now all objects under the assembly has the same material)
2- To reduce number of objects, click merge objects using the same material
3- Regenerate the texture coordinates
4- Update the material properties, set normal map and its parameters.
5- Start real time rendering

Re: Imorting from SketchUp Group split into faces
Can you please explain better how you regenerated the UV coordinates, cause this is the result I got after trying your method
Re: Imorting from SketchUp Group split into faces
This is the tricky part.
I tried a box, and I used the move dragger to align it with the flow.
You may try few times and render to get the result you are looking for.
